Comic Con Adventure!

Mom wanted us to do something fun as a family for her birthday.  I didn’t exactly expect it to be the 2010 New York City Comic Con.  Still, I was psyched.  First on the agenda-drive there.  Naturally, I brought comic books for the ride over.  When we got there, it wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be like.  You might think it’s like half the world in costumes, playing video games and haggling over Superman #1 (which, by the way, probably didn’t turn up at this convention).  Well, it’s not.  More like about a 32nd of the world, and half in costumes.  Yes, there were video games, but there were more panel discussions and company booths.

Our first stop was Firebreather.  Firebreather is going to be a Cartoon Network original movie about a boy who’s half-monster.  We were the first ones to see it as a public audience!

Next, we went to a Ben 10: Ultimate Alien panel!  It was, basically, an episode of Ben 10: Ultimate Alien that’s going to air in two weeks.  Plus, the cast (minus Dee Bradley Baker) was there to do voiceovers!  It was awesome and hilarious!

After the panel, we mostly just walked around and explored.  We had two main targets: Archaia, which made Fraggle Rock comics, and Boom! Kids, which made various Muppet comics, namely The Muppet Show Comic Book.  We found Boom! Kids first, with an unexpected guest-my Muppet comics idol-Amy Mebberson!  She was doing customized covers of any Muppet character you could name!  I got Gonzo, and Eli got Skeeter (Mebberson’s creation for The Muppet Show: Family Reunion story arc).

It turns out that the Boom! Kids booth was right next to the Archaia booth, so we headed over there to check it out.

They had a television playing Fraggle Rock and everything!  What’s more, they had a bunch of Fraggle Rock Volume One in hardcover!  We also headed over to Artist Alley, where we met Peter Kuper, the man who draws MAD Magazine’s Spy vs Spy comics.  He made Eli one.

Comic Con was so much fun, maybe we could try it next year!  Hey, Mom!

It was a great show! I just didn’t like all the crowds. Sounds like you managed to see some great artists too.
